At our New Website Playbook seminar in June, I called out something incoming clients kept describing. Businesses used to win or lose opportunities in conversations with their salesperson. Those conversations would come from brief interaction on a website, then the meat of the conversation would happen with a person. Now, as buyers have shifted heavily to pre-research and AI insights, choices are made before companies even get a phone call.
In our research, we learned that 95% of the buying process now happens before first contact, and prospects arrive having narrowed the field to two finalists. If your site does not address the real questions they are asking in search and AI, about fit, process, challenges… you lose to the competitor whose site gives the answers. And, not only are prospects looking for those answers, but so are the AI tools that are combing websites for insight
We see this pattern in nearly every site assessment we run, which is why buyer-question mapping became a standing section in our Website Blueprint, before a single page gets created.
